"Terra Fantasia" is a communication game for children and adults with an Age of Discovery theme. Drawing and story-telling guide players through their journey.
◼︎The Objective of the Game
The King secretly chooses a monster from the map, and the Adventurers figure out which one it is and draw a picture of it.
Try to guess the monster that the King chose.
After presenting their drawing and the story to the King, Adventurers will be awarded based on their capture.
First, choose one person to play the King. The other players will become Adventurers.
1. Characteristics of Monster
Three “King’s Request Cards” represent the “Looks,” “Behavior,” and “Influence” of the monster, and each side of these cards shows the various choices of characteristics.
The King picks one side of each card to play. In the order of “Looks,” “Behavior,” and “Influence,” the King decides the characteristics of the monster by rolling a die.
Examples: Looks: Has many scales
Behavior: Has lived for 100 years
Influence(Represents the effects the monster has on the kingdom): New medication is developed
2. The King’s Choice
The King finds one monster that matches these characteristics from the “Adventurers’ Map.”
(There are over 100 monsters on the large map!)
Ensure adventurers turn their back to the King so they cannot see the monster the King chooses.
After finding the right monster, the King will put a “Mark Sticker” on the “King’s Map,” which is identical to the Adventurers’ Map but smaller. Then, the King places it face down on the table.
3. Hint Time
Adventurers will ask for hints from the King.
Ask the King to perform one of the following two actions.
1. What kind of call does the monster make? What sorts of things does it say?
2. Express the physical characteristics of the monster with gestures.
4. Guess and Record
In the meantime, Adventurers look for the monster the King chose and draw its picture on the “Record Card.”
If you have extra time, draw the scene of capture.
Talk with other Adventurers and decide who chooses which monster.
Then, select bait to lure the monster. Each Adventurer chooses one bait from the “Bait Card” and draws it on the picture.
5. Presentation Time
It’s time to give a presentation to the King about the monster you caught.
The chosen adventurer shows everyone their “Record Card” and informs the King what kind of monster they caught.
Keeping the “King’s Requests” in consideration, each adventurer informs the King about the circumstances of the capture.
Example: King: First, I would like to hear and see the report from Captain Jack.
Captain Jack: Yes, your Majesty. I caught a monster named Selvaris!
When I threw sardines from the ship, it swam close to me, and I caught it with a big net.
Using the scales of this monster, it is possible to develop a new medicine that prolongs human life.
It will get the world’s attention for sure!
The King will ask the adventurers the following questions and more to discover the context in which they caught a monster.
・Where did you find the monster?
・At what time of the day did you find the monster: Morning or night?
・What was the context in which you found it?
・Was the monster afraid of you? Was it aggressive? Was it friendly?
Let's praise each other's success, create a lively atmosphere, and give a presentation that satisfies the King.
6. Revealing King’s Choice
After the presentation, the King shows the “King’s Map” to everyone the monster they chose.
Adventurers can ask why the King chose that monster and/or what kind of influence the monster provides to the kingdom.
7. Ceremony
In the end, the King will give one award to each adventurer.
・Perfect Award: Given to the adventurer who caught the exact monster the King chose.
・Humor Award: Given to the adventurer whose method of capture and presentation was comedic.
・Elegant Award: Given to the adventurer who caught a monster in a brilliant way.
・Good Idea Award: Given to the adventurer whose monster and story are unique.
That concludes the game.
